This sculpture of Saint Therese is yet another example of Tuan’s versatility and his ability to create works that run the gambit from the sensual to the inspirational, from the timely to the timeless, infused with a special passion and energy from deep within his being.

Touched by the story of Saint Therese, Tuan took on this commission in 2007 with energy and reverence, taking care to convey the tenderness and compassion of God’s little flower with every touch of tool and hand.

The result is a truly inspirational masterpiece that is certain to warm the hearts of all who sets eyes upon it, for there is a part of Tuan’s soul deep within, adding to its energy.

About the church:
The site of this magnificent installation is the Little Flower Catholic Church, a fixture in mid-town Mobile, Alabama since 1928.

Tuan’s sculpture is a vital component in their revitalization strategy aimed at insuring that the church will be there to serve the community for another eighty years.

True to the essence of Saint Therese, Tuan’s eighteen foot bronze creation depicts “The Little Flower” as being surrounded by children, for she saw herself as a child of God and tried to keep things simple and focused as a child would. Trust, to her, was a childlike virtue and she trusted God totally and completely.

 Saint Therese looked upon the world as God’s garden and she was but a “little flower” in that garden, hidden and simple, thriving where God had planted her.
